The Carnegie Collection Ankylosaurus (2005)

Prototype/paint master from promotional photos.

Name: Ankylosaurus
Species: Ankylosaurus magniventris
First release: 2005
Retired: 2015
Model number: 4047-01
Size: 19cm
Scale: 1:30
Sculptor: Forest Rogers

The Carnegie Collection Ankylosaurus is the de facto upgrade to the old 1989 Euoplocephalus. Though sculpted as a different species, the color scheme is similar and it is in the exact same pose as the old classic model.

Though this model was advertised as 1:30 scale, it could be 1:35 assuming it represents the largest known specimen.

CE mark: Large
TDR rating: 4/10

The original release had a relatively bright green paint application with a distinct darker color of green applies to the back and head, giving he model a more counter-shaded appearance than later production runs. The blue around the eyes is applied as a light wash. The feet are airbrushed bright white, lighter than the off-white or cream base color and distinct from the osteoderm color.

There is no date stamp on the foot of this sample, making it earlier than my sample marked 2012, and probably close to the original release.

This variant has a more drab, olive green color. It retains two shades of green as in the original, but the darker green is restricted mostly to the head. The blue eye rings remain a light wash rather than distinct circles.

This version of Ankylosaurus has a darker wash on the body, with a blended dark/light green color scheme. The blue is applied in a less subtle way, especially the very distinct blue rings around the eyes.
