Version: 1
Release: 1989

Variant type: Gold wash
Material: Hard black vinyl
Paint: Glossy. 6 colors. Moss green (back); light gray (limbs, underside), gray (armor wash), yellow (eyes), pink (mouth); black (pupils).
Stamp text: EUOPLOCEPHALUS / 20 FT (6 METERS) / (C) 1988 THE CARNEGIE / SAFARI LTD, MIAMI FL / MADE IN CHINA
CE mark: None.
TDR rating: 7/10

The first version of Euoplocephalus, pictured here, is very similar to the (only very slightly) retooled version released in 1991. The most noticeable difference between the two versions is the presence of "Miami, FL" as part of the date stamp on the bottom of the figure in the original release, but absent from the re-release. The paint, particularly the paint on the armor, is noticeably glossier in this release. The gray paint on the armor is much lighter and more of a wash than the dark gray of later versions - the gray wash used here allows the underlying green the show through, giving the osteoderms a striated appearance and lending a pebbled appearance to the coloration on the tail club. The eye is very small with an extremely tiny pupil, in contrast to the large, "surprised" looking eyes of later releases. THe finer details, like this small eye, are characteristic of "gold wash" era models, and this version has appeared alongside that set in 1989 catalogs.

As pictured with the "gold wash" set in the 1989 Schleich Carnegie catalog. Note the uniform light green color and tiny eye details characteristic of this version.

Version: 2
Release: c. 1989
Status: Minor repaint
Variant type: Catalog version
Material: Medium weight gray vinyl
Paint: Moss green back, gray limbs and underside, dark gray armor highlights, yellow and black eyes, pink mouth.
Stamp text: ?
CE mark: ?
TDR rating: 4/10

Similar to other 1990s era Euoplocephalus models, but without the glossy finish. This might be a later edition, though it matches up well with the matte paint style seen in the 1990 catalog versions. This model was reviewed by Marc Vincent on Dino Toy Blog, and you can read more about it and see more of his photos here.

Version: 3
Release: c. 1991
Status: Minor retool
Variant type: Classic version
Material: ?
Paint: Glossy. 6 colors. Moss green (back); light gray (limbs, underside), gray (armor wash), yellow (eyes), pink (mouth); black (pupils).
Stamp text: EUOPLOCEPHALUS / 20 FT (6 METERS) / (C) 1988 THE CARNEGIE / SAFARI LTD / CE
CE mark: Small
TDR rating: 7/10

This Carnegie Euoplocephalus lacks the wash-like paint application on the armor and has a wider, "surprised" looking eye like later versions. However, its brighter green back is more similar to the prototype version depicted in 1988 Carnegie brochures. Still, it is not a perfect match (it lacks the 2-tone spines) and the imprint stamps with "Miami" and "China" removed and a CE mark added show that it is in fact a late edition.

Version: 4
Release: c. 1993
Status: Retool
Variant type: Classic version
Material: Medium weight gray vinyl
Paint: Moss green back, gray limbs and underside, dark gray armor highlights, yellow and black eyes, pink mouth.
Stamp text: EUOPLOCEPHALUS / 20 FT (6 METERS) / (C) 1988 THE CARNEGIE / SAFARI LTD / CE
CE mark: Small
TDR rating: 2/10

This version of Euoplocephalus was essentially the same model as the previous, darker, more thickly applied paint on the armor, and a duller gray underside.
